My work deals with migration and migrants’ memories: childhood, voyages and arrivals.  I have used the family stories of people I know, and my own, to explore where memory is held and how we experience it now, in our daily lives. Current migrants’ stories are very raw so I have also used the stories of an earlier generation who, thorough separation, sacrifice and struggle, made new lives for themselves.  My subjects’ stories raise powerful emotions, which resonate through my work.  I have use a range of materials and surfaces in my work: particularly fabrics.  These relate to each story, evoking smells, places and history.  I invite you to explore and share your own stories and to talk about your own family’s history: the lived past.
